Help Us Grow: Planting Seeds for Tomorrow’s Leaders
We are excited to announce an enriching initiative at Constellation Charter School — we're creating a Food Forest right on our campus! This project is designed to provide our students, grades 1-7, with hands-on educational experiences in sustainability, biology, and environmental stewardship. But we need your help to make it happen!
What is a Food Forest?
A Food Forest is a vibrant, multi-layered ecosystem consisting of various types of plants such as fruit trees, shrubs, herbs, and perennials, all designed to mimic a natural forest’s ecological systems. By creating a Food Forest, we aim to transform our schoolyard into a green, productive space where students can learn about nature, food origins, and sustainable practices.
Our Goal: $12,000
We have outlined the costs associated with setting up a fully operational Food Forest, including organic materials and labor. Here’s a breakdown of our budget:
Organic Soil (30 cubic yards & delivery): $1,200
Organic Compost (4 cubic yards): $200
Organic Mulch (30 cubic yards & delivery): $800
Edging Materials: $400
Plants (400 ranging from 3-gallon to 4-inch cups): $1,500
Fruit Trees (15 gallons x 10): $1,000
Bananas (x 5): $200
Organic Fertilizer: $100
Labor: $3,600
Irrigation System: $3,000
How You Can Help
Your contributions will directly fund the purchase of materials and labor needed to establish the Food Forest. Here’s how donations of various amounts can help:
$50 helps buy a fruit tree or contributes significantly towards our compost and mulch needs.
$100 can sponsor several plants or cover a portion of our organic fertilizer.
$500 would cover much of our irrigation system or the labor required to plant and establish the forest.
